Jewelry Care Guide

My jewelry is crafted from 925 sterling silver, which can naturally tarnish over time when exposed to air, moisture, and everyday elements. To keep your pieces looking their best and extend their lifespan, here are a few simple care tips.

It’s important to remove your jewelry during specific activities to protect it from unnecessary wear and damage. For instance, swimming in both chlorinated and saltwater can accelerate tarnishing and wear down gold plating. Likewise, showering and bathing can dull the shine of your jewelry over time due to hot water, soap, and shampoo. During sports or physical activities, sweat can tarnish sterling silver and dull gold plating, while also accumulating oils and dirt on the surface. Sleeping with jewelry on can cause chains to tangle or break, and other pieces may become scratched or bent. When doing household chores, it’s essential to remove your jewelry as cleaning products containing bleach or ammonia can corrode silver and damage the gold-plating.

To maintain the shine of your jewelry, avoid direct contact with lotions, perfumes, and other beauty products. These can contain chemicals that may tarnish or dull the surface of your jewelry. Always apply lotions, makeup, and perfume before putting on your jewelry, and allow these products to fully absorb into your skin. Be especially cautious with perfumes and hairsprays, as they often contain alcohol and chemicals that can erode the metal. Even natural oils from your skin can affect the sheen, so it’s a good idea to gently wipe your jewelry after wearing it to remove oils and sweat.

Proper storage is also key to keeping your jewelry in god condition. Store your pieces in a cool, dry place to minimize tarnishing caused by humidity and air exposure. Use a soft cloth pouch or jewelry box to prevent scratching, tangling, or damage to delicate chains. It’s ideal to keep your jewelry in its original box or bag, as these are designed to protect your pieces from environmental exposure, prevent tangling, and keep chains and delicate items organized.
